A discreet ramen shop
Several things got me into this ramen shop. Several people were coming in and out, mostly single people, no large groups, at a reasonable pace: a sign that service would be quick, but also that no one would rush me to clear a table for the next customer.
It looked like a good, all things considered, almost dim place, a place with a clientele of regulars. The area also seemed to indicate it: it was placed under a large, fairly recent concrete railroad bridge in downtown Sapporo, very close to a popular photo and electronics store. I had walked past it before and was struck by the small facade.
The ramen was delicious, the atmosphere just what I was looking for. With little money, I found myself in front of a large, capacious bowl filled to the brim with steaming broth. Not vegetarian, though: in Japan, being a vegetarian is quite complicated, the broth is almost always meat-based. I asked not to add the slice of meat that traditionally completes the dish, but communication is complicated, always cumbersome, between automatic translators and attempts to express myself in English.
