Again

Sometimes I am amazed at how the photos arrive.

I mean. I don't plan that much. I used to do it: one photo a day, one photo a week, no, it's too much, I can't keep the rhythm, too many things?, come on I can do it, it's just another to-do, no, less, no, look at this, I haven't posted for months, maybe it would be better to stop. And stop. And again.

Then I look at sistrall.it in perspective and I think that this thing of putting photos and thoughts online makes sense, and even more sense. It makes sense to me, it makes sense in general. It also makes sense because every now and then these things happen: that certain photos arrive, they impress the cameras and sensors, and they want to be seen.

Take this pumpkin seed: it came from a pumpkin in mum's garden, it went all the way around and back to mum's garden. Placed there in the soil, it sprouted fast and came up with some force: there was energy in those cotyledons that waited patiently for almost a year: the energy is still almost intact at the time of the photo.

Remarkably, this photo arrived inside a pandemic. Like a memorandum of waiting, of rebirth, of the moment when something holds you back. With an exhilarating synchronicity.

You will think I digress if I quote Antonio Pascale, who wrote last week in the Post: 'Speaking of pandemics. Take the cycle of the 4 protists that cause the 4 types of malaria. They are of the genus Plasmodium. A wonderfully complicated cycle very difficult to remember even for prof. of zoology, let alone me: sporozoite (asexual cycle that enters the bloodstream after mosquito bite and migrates into the liver), merozoite (asexual, exits liver and invades red blood cells), trophozoite (thrives in blood cells by enlarging them), gaetocyte (sexual, gametes invade the blood and are taken up by the mosquito when it bites), oocynete (in the gut of the mosquito, then the sporozoites migrate into the salivary glands of the mosquito and from there the cycle begins again)."

Also:

"A wonderful chain, each link is the result of an adaptive strategy. Time and Chaos in action to create tactical structures and complex metamorphoses. What do we see there? An intelligent design? To him do we give thanks on our knees? Why would a god spend so much of his intelligence to design such a complex parasite? It is only Time and Chaos. Therefore we kneel."

Rest assured seed, rest assured: it is only Time and Chaos.
