New York as I imagine it

We spent New Year's Eve 2018 in a hotel on 31st Street (Manhattan), with this view. Which is New York as I imagine it, full of rooftops to go out and celebrate midnight - which indeed happened, albeit slightly late.

It is also a normal city, New York: there are courtyards, with trees climbing fearlessly for light; there are gutters; there are low houses and high houses. But the tall ones occasionally lose their common sense and grow up to - literally - scratch the sky.
